Internal Decision Making Systems

Do you struggle making decisions sometimes? Do you ever feel like you have “Decision Fatigue”? In this blog, we will talk about how knowing your internal decision making system can help you personally and professionally.

If you are a conscious entrepreneur, who wants to have a thriving business whilst authentically being yourself, helping others and making the world a better place then understanding your internal decision making system could be very beneficial for you.

Recently, we had the pleasure of chatting with Caroline from Human Design Basics about exactly what Human Design is, why it is your “Internal Decision Making System” and how it can help you in your business.

What is Human Design?

Human Design is an intersection of a whole bunch of systems including:

  • Eastern and Western Astrology
  • Chinese IChing
  • Kabbalah Tree of Life
  • Hindu Chakra System
  • Genetics
  • Quantum Mechanics

All of these are embedded within the Human Design system, which is a framework to be able to better understand how you were born to operate. If you could imagine a big bubble of invisible energy that surrounds your physical body, the system provides a pictorial representation of what your energy field looks like. It is useful because it helps us to understand how we are energetically wired to do relationships, business and all aspects of life.

Why is it your “Internal Decision Making System”?

Everyone has their own unique system that we were born to operate in the world with. Part of this is a system to make decisions with which is impacted by which circuits are connected and how. Keeping with the electrical analogy, where it flows within our body, influences the way we are designed to make decisions.

You may be familiar with the concept that to make decisions, you need to write a list of pros and cons, logically think it through and then make the best decision from there. However, decisions are not logical… Some decisions are made from emotional reactions / responses which can cause challenges as this type of decision is being triggered by fear.

Within the Human Design system, we each have an “Inner Authority” which is the internal circuit we are born with to best make decisions. There are 6 different Inner Authorities;

  1. Solar Plexus / Emotional – Need time to process and feel clear about the opportunity in front of you
  2. Sacral / Gut – Decisions are made quickly with yes / no responses based on your gut feel
  3. Splenic / Spontaneous – Decisions made very, very quickly, in the moment with a deep gut knowing that you can explain with words
  4. Ego / Heart – Best decisions made by considering “What you want”
  5. Self –  Need time to talk decision to find the option that sounds smooth and clear as you speak it out loud
  6. None – Takes time to talk decisions through and utilise other peoples directions as a guide to what feels right for you

As a child there is a tendency for our well-meaning parents, teachers, coaches to condition us with “their” truth of making decisions which can become an ingrained habit that could lead us down paths that are not true for us. It also means we have learnt to “look up to” people in positions of authority to make decisions for us (I’m sure you’re all familiar with the “Because Mum / Dad said so” phrase) because they have not known how to teach us how to make decisions the best way for ourselves. If you take the time to understand your internal decision making system, you can 100% honour yourself which can have profound effects on all aspects of your life. It can increase your confidence in making solid decisions and not be swayed by other people’s opinions or their truths.

How can it help in your Business?

There are multiple ways you can use your Internal Decision Making System within your business. The primary way is to enter into business relationships and conversations (with Clients, Suppliers, Staff, Networks etc) knowing how you make decisions and honouring that. Ensuring that everywhere you need to make decisions, you’ve implemented your “Inner Authority” into the process.

The secondary way is to integrate it into your business by using the information to service your clients. Providing a high level of service by helping them to honour the way which is right for them, become more authentic, trust more and thus build the “Like, Know & Trust” factor quicker and easier.

An example which we have integrated into our sales process here at KCS is to ask our potential clients at the end of a conversation, “How much time do you need to make this decision”? This honours individuals ways of making decisions without them even knowing it. We follow up at the designated time and don’t take it personally if the amount of time is a few days or a few months knowing that some people need time to process and make a decision which is true to the way they function.

Some of the beliefs surrounding business including:

  • You have to work hard to be successful
  • You have to continually hustle to get anywhere
  • The more clients the better

Have the potential to have a negative effect on us if we fall into those belief systems which aren’t necessarily the truth for you or serve you best. Business can be easier, business can be simple, business can be joyful. You don’t have to “fake it till you make it” to be successful, you can be authentic and you will be surprised by how many people will connect with that and choose to do business with you purely based on that authenticity.
